Our Mission

About Us

Established in 1944, the Edwards Business Students' Society (EBSS) stands as an indispensable pillar of support and engagement within the tight-knit community of the Edwards School of Business. Exclusively dedicated to serving the unique needs of Edwards students, the EBSS has been a constant companion throughout their academic journeys. By offering tailored resources, interactive workshops, and enriching events, the EBSS ensures that Edwards students have access to a comprehensive toolkit for their future success. Beyond the classroom, the EBSS serves as a hub for social interaction, fostering connections and facilitating friendships and networks that last a lifetime.

As a society deeply rooted in the Edwards School of Business, the EBSS also embraces its responsibility to give back. Through a range of charitable endeavours and community engagement initiatives, the EBSS embodies the values of compassion and service, reinforcing the strong bond between the society and the larger community it serves. In essence, the Edwards Business Students' Society continues to evolve and thrive, driven by an unwavering commitment to enhancing the distinctive academic, social, and ethical dimensions of the Edwards experience for every student it proudly represents.

Current EBSS Calls to Action

Trans and Non-Binary Inclusion

Call to introduce steps for Trans and Non-Binary Inclusion at Edwards. 2SLGBTQ+ students at Edwards face numerous gaps in the fulfillment of their basic needs such as faculties, curriculums, physical space, and employment services and advising.

Proper Garbage and Recyling

Call to fix disposal issues within Edwards such as improper signage of garbage and recycling bins. As it stands, garbage and recycling still ends up in the same trash bags. In this document, the EBSS also outlines it’s current and future sustainability plans.

Student Spaces and Boardrooms

Call to reconsider the removal of Edwards student boardrooms, highlighting the importance of student spaces. In this document the EBSS also provides alternatives for Edwards to consider instead of converting student spaces into faculty offices.

* As of September 2024, this call to action has been resolved *

Indigenous Initiatives

The Edwards Business Students' Society is committed to creating an environment where Indigenous students, culture and tradition are celebrated, respected, and evident. With the creation of the Director of Indigenous Initiatives role on council in 2020, the EBSS developed an Indigenous Initiatives report following a CIRCLE strategy. CIRCLE outlines individual commitments, explains specific steps that could be considered and implemented, as well as defines indicators of success for each commitment. Change, Inclusion, Recognition, Collaboration, Learning, and Equity (CIRCLE) were commitments created to align with the Principles of Reconciliation established by The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

Throughout 2021 and 2022, with the creation of the Diversity and Inclusion portfolio, the EBSS continued to reflect on its operations and expand on its recommendations with the Indigenous Initiatives report updates. This document was an opportunity to evaluate the first year of implementation of the Indigenous Initiatives report and provide further recommendations to decolonize and Indigenize the EBSS. Both the original report and the update are available below. To discuss ongoing initiatives, please reach out to vpedid@edwardsbss.com.
